LAREDO, TX. (KGNS) - After retiring, you never expect your name to continue living on after you are gone; however, for UISD Superintendent Bobby Santos, his name will be written in stone, literally.

UISD decided to construct a brand-new elementary school and name it in his honor.

The Roberto J Santos Elementary School will open this fall to roughly 400 students.

On Tuesday, Santos, educators, administrators, family, and friends, gathered at the new elementary school to bid farewell with a brunch and a farewell parade to Mr. Santos.

Many of the guests speaking on Santos’ behalf of his many accomplishments during his 16 years as superintendent.

Carmen Davila with UISD says, our District has been rated as a number one-rated school district for two years in a row, so of course, we are extremely excited about that and our district is wonderful because of the great things he has done for us and with us.”

Santos retires at the end of this month at which time David Gonzalez will take over.
